I am probably best described as an atheist who believes in one God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Wait! What?
Correct. I do not believe in the petty, sadistic, cruel, angry, divisive, absent, distant, unreachable god of most of mainstream Christianity. I also believe in only one God, not two rival gods locked in perpetual competition, nor a pantheon of lesser gods comprising their minions and forces.
For decades I was a god hating atheist. I was under the belief that if there was a “god” whatever that means, then that “god” was indefensibly and undeniably evil. It may or may not surprise you to know that among non-Christians, it’s not at all unusual to look at “the god of the Bible” and see what appears to be an evil, violent, hateful, and petty God. It tends to be the doctrines of Christians that promote this idea.
What I had was a revelation that the god I never believed in or accepted truly was not real, but a far greater and better one, worthy of the title of God did exist.
What I now believe in is the result of a personal revelation of the man Christ Jesus, who is God, and who proclaimed forgiveness to all, for all, in the very act of being murdered by His own creation. This is the center of the Universe, and the moment upon which all creation revolves.
A God who became one of us to show us His nature and character,and to show us that His Judgement is Forgiveness, His Justice is Mercy, His Retribution is Reconciliation, His Vengeance is Restoration. He rules by serving, and gave assurance of life by dying and rising again.
I believe that God is simultaneously all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-good, and in fact, in order to be all-good, it’s imperative that God be all-knowing, omnipresent, and all-powerful.
Many popular notions require God to be either not all-knowing, not all-powerful, or not all-good. God isn’t evil. He has no rival. All things are made by Him, to Him, through Him, and by Him all things consist. He is everywhere at all times because He comprises everything that exists. There is nothing that was made without Him. All miracles are performed by Him and Him alone.
He has no rival. God alone is God,and that God is Emmanuel, God with us, in us, among us, within us.
